Well, it seems to me that I resist much of what is thrown at me. I go through my day bombarded with ad after ad, song after song, show after show, and never give a second thought as to how all this affects me.

Media and I interact without much thought. From that stems a big problem, pop culture and I do not get along either. Media seems to just blast pop culture in my face. Yet on the other hand we are always somehow together. In a way we are like an old married couple, arguing and disagreeing over the slightest details of insignificant things. I am personally all for the lawsuit and hope to see an appropriate consequence befall the federal government. The lawsuit is supported by 4 ICP fans who are being used as plaintiffs during the process. They are SUING the FBI! ICP is arguing that the designation of Juggalos as a gang violates many constitutional rights including freedom of speech, freedom of association, and right to due process. My favorite part about this story is that ICP is fighting back against the federal government. Yes you could make the argument that Manson really banked on his over the top behavior and provocative lyrics but that is a whole different story. The same thing happened with Marilyn Manson in the 90's. I don't want to sound like a cynic or that stereotypical teenage who opposes society but I find this really typical of pop culture, the odd and different is condemned as wrong and bad. But recently metaphorical shots were fired at ICP when the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment classified loyal ICP fans or Juggalos as a "loosely organized hybrid gang." It's understandable how perceptions of ICP could be critical and disapproving from the typical view of pop culture. With songs like "Guts on the Ceiling", "Murder Go-Round", and "Night of the Chainsaw" ICP is arguably one of the most controversial horrorcore artists out there. Insane Clown Posse has been pushing the boundaries in music since the early 90's. In response to Merchants of Cool and their whole segment on how ad companies sell teenagers cool and bring up Insane Clown Posse and their influence, I thought it would be perfect to discuss this topic of horrorcore and the perceptions that advertising shape regarding Insane Clown Posse. That is really the only thing I can equate with this exploitation of these women. It really feels like high school gossip doesn't end when you get out of high school. Some of these women are famous because of the drama they have attached to their name. What makes these women any different from anyone else? I don't understand the reason why anyone should care what these women do. These people are not gods, yet they are idolized as such. Where did this exploitation come from? Why does every action of Kim Kardashian make headlines? What is so special about these people to make their movement the biggest thing on the news? I hate tabloids and most other magazines but some people can't go a day without knowing what Miley Cyrus had for breakfast. I know it seems like a simple question but it is truly baffling to think that what amounts to high school gossip is considered top stories and breaking news! So I have been asking this question for a while now and have never gotten an answer.
